One of the most important initiatives that you can take to preserve the life of this planet, is to recycle its waste. The shifts in global temperature and climate have exposed our planet to a number of dangers. Waste, which is created by us every day, is one of the biggest threats to the environment. We are all required to play our part in increasing the recycling of waste. We should not only do it ourselves, but for future generations too. We have to generate collaborative efforts to protect the long term interests of Earth.

Recycle, and tell others to recycle

As an individual you can do a lot of things to enhance the activity of recycling. These will also help you in encouraging others to recycle. Some of these include:

  • Planting trees

  • Using less electricity

  • Using natural products

  • Filtering wastes

  • Using solar energy

  • Reducing the use of vehicles

  • Shifting to paper bags

  • Do not forget, it is our planet and we are responsible for saving it!

Why go for Recycling Waste

There are a number of benefits that we gain from recycling. It creates jobs, reduces pollution, enhances the economy, and above all it saves the earth. If we do not recycle, then the consequences can be dire. We are required to recycle more waste today than ever before because of the magnanimous impact that recycling has on the current economy and environment.

Threats of Not Recycling the Waste

If you opt for not recycling the waste, then you must consider the following damages that the non-recycled waste may cause.

a. Contamination of Water

The waste that you do not recycle ends up in all bodies of water, be it reservoirs, underground lakes, seas, oceans and rivers. They are all connected. It has negative impacts on the chemical composition of water. This can make the water toxic. Contaminated water is observed to cause numerous deaths each year.

b. Contamination of Soil

Non-recycled waste can dissolve into the soil. This contaminates the soil, plants, and animals. Animals, on the other hand, may eat the contaminated plants. If humans consume such contaminated plants and animals, then this can deteriorate their health as well. Again, everything is connected and working in circular patterns, as should waste.

c. Pollution and Global Warming

Inappropriate management of waste can increase the degree of pollution. The green-house gases have already increased to an alarming level. When taken as a combination, these factors are rapidly reducing the expected life of earth and its inhabitants. In the U.S. 16% of people deny that this is happening, even though scientists have concrete proof.

d. Destruction of Infrastructure and Well-being of Cities

Non-recycling of waste reduces the degree of sanitation in municipalities. The latest report of the World Bank shows that urban cities now produce more than 63 million tonnes of waste each year. This waste can get accumulated in the cities and damages the well-being of these areas.

e. Reduction in Revenue from Recycling

Given the degree of waste that is produced nowadays, recycling of waste can generate huge revenues. Avoiding proper waste management can deprive the cities and nations from an amazing earning opportunity.
